It’s over for another year – the annual Digital Wine Communications Conference. The seventh edition was held in Montreux, Switzerland over the last weekend. The conference, called until 2013 the European Wine Bloggers’ Conference, is now in its seventh edition. From a modest start in 2008 in Rioja with less than forty participants, it has grown to over 300 attendees this year.

Wine in context

We were amazingly fortunate with the weather, which was perfect during the last week and only broke yesterday as we drove up into the Juras.

Here are a small selection of photos that attempt to cover some aspects of this very popular event.

Dr José Vouillamoz – the ‘special one’

Dr José Vouillamoz is one of three co-authors of Wine Grapes, the most comprehensive book on wine grapes. It has been fascinating over the last three years to see José become comfortable with the wine world. His now a real star, whereas three years ago in Izmir he was much more cautious and reserved.

  1. Nice photographs as usual Jim. But what was this event all about? A showcase for discounters or PR’s? A live blogging experience? And what about the Swiss wines?
And where do I stand as an old fashioned wine writer? Please tell us more!

  2. PS. The new Swiss wine logo is a mystery to me. When one is lucky enough to own one of the best known symbols in the world – the white cross of the Swiss flag… and the Swiss army knife, why choose such a abstruse geometrical pattern?
A good example that new ways are not necessarily better – and that does not apply only to logo’s.

  3. Great event. Still sorting through my photos.. looking forward for next year.

  4. These events are a load of bullshit Jim, and they are entirely about making money for the organisers, whilst slightly flattering the egos of some of the participants. I may be totally wrong, but tell me something else.
