Two lively and lovely wines from Bordeaux and the Loire which have defied time and the customary prognosis … 1966 was a special year for me as I spent three months wandering around mainland Europe going as far as the Greek islands, inparticular Mykonos before it had been developed as a major tourist spot. Later that year I started my ‘studies’ at Manchester Untiversity.

Another demonstration that wines without a huge reputation can age attractively for much longer than many imagine. 1998 was quite a difficult vintage in the Loire even so this was drinking very well with good concentration, balance and now very soft tannins plus a very digestible 12˚ alcohol.
